About the Book:
This is the second volume of the history of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators (GAPAN) covering the period from 1965 to 2004. Rather than depict GAPAN;s overall history during those years in a narrative year-by-year fashioning, the 14 chapters are arranged as "mini histories", covering each of the various activities and associations of the Guild. Thus the chapter on the Guild's important and influential technical section traces its name changes, amalgamations, campaigns and consultations through the 40 years covered by this history.
A further intention of this book is to provide guidance to the uninitiated onhow the Guild is structured, how it actually works and how it fits in with the City of London and with its fellow Livery Companies.
It contains brief pofiles of the 40 Masters who have led GAPAN during this time, photgraphs of the Guild's archives and is intended to be both a history, and a source of information.
About the Author:Ian Frow earned his wings in the Royal Air Force during National Service. Having joined BOAC (later British Airways) he flew with them for 34 years before joining Virgin Atlantic Airways until he retired. He spent 30 years flying the Boeing 747 but also flew Concorde a number of times whilst chairing the team carring out a detailed evaluation of the aircraft for their fellow pilots. He is a Liveryman of GAPAN. This is his first book but he has contributed numerous articles published by the British Airline Pilots' Association journal, the Log. He also acted as Chief Editor of that magazine for nearly two decades.
